The Victoria Symphony's Education and Outreach concerts are designed for students in grades K to 7 in Victoria, Saanich, Sooke, Gulf Islands and Cowichan school districts as well as independent and home schools. These concerts provide fun, accessible and engaging experiences while exposing students to the wonders of live classical music.
Each year these concerts outreach to over 6,800 elementary school students on
Vancouver Island.
We're very excited that this year's concert will feature the Victoria Symphony led by Music Director Maestra Tania Miller conducting “Bach to the Future.” Students travel back in time to discover how the orchestra began and how it built up over time. Students will be introduced to all of the instruments of the orchestra one group at a time, and will explore the music of many famous composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky. There will be a segment in the performance where all of the kids will be singing along with the orchestra to “Yellow Submarine” by the Beatles. Tania encourages teachers to please teach their students this popular song which will be included in the Teacher’s Guide which we will be providing to you. In addition, the theme from Beethoven's symphony No. 9, the “Ode to Joy” will be performed, which can be taught to students in advance to be played on recorder along with the orchestra. Bach to the Future will be an exciting and interactive experience!
