Victoria’s own Daniel Lapp is the featured guest in the upcoming Beltone Pops Series concerts on March 2, 3 and 4 at the Royal Theatre. Led by Maestro Brian Jackson, the Victoria Symphony and Lapp will delight audiences with performances of Irish reels, Scottish folksongs and some tunes from the East Coast.

Included on this great Gaelic concert will be orchestral music from Brigadoon, “Fantasy of Scottish Melodies”, a wonderful arrangement of “Danny Boy”, and Eric Coates’s “Springtime in Angus”. Daniel Lapp will join the orchestra playing both fiddle and trumpet in some great Maritime tunes, “Shetland Airs” and other foot-stomping melodies! Accompanying Daniel in this performance is pianist and fiddler Jaime RT and guitarist Adam Dobres.

Maestro Brian Jackson is the Principal Pops Conductor for Orchestra London Canada, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and the Victoria Symphony. He has performed all the major symphonic and choral literature as well as being recognised as a champion of Canadian composers.

At the age of 25 he was the youngest Music Director in Canada (Peterborough Symphony) and since that time has conducted all the major Canadian orchestras. He was Music Director of the Kingston Symphony and the Kingston Choral Society for over a decade, and has led orchestras in the UK, Europe, the United States and South America. Although he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, his keyboard skills now concentrate on the piano, as witnessed in his coast to coast "Tribute to Liberace" pops show. Brian is gifted as an arranger, orchestrator and composer. Three of his five musicals, "Pip", "Ernest" and "Wallis" have been staged in Ontario theatres. He has conducted for the Canadian Opera Company, Canadian Operetta Company, and Opera Lyra Ottawa, as well as in opera houses in Germany, Austria, Holland and Switzerland. Brian was an organ scholar at Oxford University, and holds a Master of Arts. He is also an Associate of the Royal College of Music. This year, as piano accompanist, his fifth CD collaboration was released, "The Last Rose" with Baritone, Denys Mailhiot.

Since his childhood years in Prince George, Daniel Lapp has travelled to many corners of the globe with his fiddle and trumpet, playing at festivals, clubs, concert halls and pubs in a great variety of contexts with a wide array of artists, such as Rickie Lee Jones with whom Daniel toured the US and Europe in the fall of 2003 singing and playing seven instruments and also with singer-songwriter, Beth Orton with whom Daniel recorded in 2004.

He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Victoria in trumpet in 1993. Since then he has been a soloist with numerous symphony orchestras on the West Coast. He has appeared at a variety of international gatherings, including Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany, with Bowfire, an ensemble of 10 eclectic violinists from across North America; Fiddlesticks in Cork, Ireland, in 1991; Expo ’86 in Vancouver; and the 1994 Commonwealth Games in his hometown of Victoria, BC, for which he formed the BC Fiddle Orchestra with 10 of his students and four of his fiddling mentors from around the province.

He has taught the fiddle to scores of students at home and abroad and collected over 1000 original BC fiddle tunes with the help of grants from the Canada Council, the BC Arts Council and the Cabot Trust Fund. He has also received numerous Canada Council grants to tour internationally, including a trip to the World Beats Festival in Brisbane, Australia, in March 2004 with his award-winning, innovative electronic and acoustic band, Lappelectro, which was nominated for a national jazz award that year.

Daniel has recorded on over 100 albums, including a contemporary fiddle album entitled Reunion, which was recorded in Newcastle, England, and Edinburgh, Scotland, and features many of the UK’s greatest folk artists. His most recent tours have taken him to Iceland and England, and he has just returned from Glasgow where he performed for the second consecutive year at the largest and most prestigious Celtic music festival, Celtic Connections.

Jaime RT hails from the Kootenay’s where she began her performing career at 12-years-old with family band “The Huscroft Family Fiddlers”. She took her love of music and created a career after university with teaching, establishing the Salt Spring Fiddle Workshop that draws fiddle lovers from all over the globe to the founding of Fiddleworks, a teaching series of music books and CDs. At home on Salt Spring Island Jaime can be found performing at community events and teaching fiddle, violin, piano, theory and composition in her unique straw bale music studio.
